The Davone Twist is a superb speaker, well built in a lovely cabinet with sound beyond what you would expect at the price point. Davone now have the Reference series and as the Twist was so popular we have the similarly sized Reference 3 in store. Building on the Davone sound the Reference brings more of everything but still follows the compact floor standing design with sound beyond the price point. Compact in size the Davone Reference 3 can be placed easily in a room and deliver a sound that is top of the class. We run ours with some IsoAcoustic Gaia Neo isolators on the end of a Hegel H400  – a slice of something brilliant. More than Beryllium
Due to its incredible rigidity, Beryllium represents the ultimate material for a tweeter dome. Where soft domes turn choirs into grain, hard rock into noise, Beryllium can separate the complex harmonics with ease and keep the music clean and precise, also at high listening levels. But we do not stop there. Opting for an unconventional approach, we mount the dome flush with the baffle, as opposed to the typical recessed placement, allowing the dome to unleash its wide off-axis response without obstruction—vital for achieving an expansive, open sound. This unique dome placement is a rarity, demanding meticulous baffle rounding to prevent diffraction and a more intricate crossover design. However, the resulting benefits outweigh the challenges. Complementing this design, we employ an exceptionally narrow surround to eliminate any lingering “soft dome” coloration. With a mere 0.1-gram moving mass and a magnetic flux density of 2.0 Tesla, our high frequencies reach reference-level quality.

A Cellulose Glass Composite
By combining cellulose with fine glass fibers, this cone material unites the best of two worlds. Cellulose brings damping qualities and warm, natural tone, while glass fibers add stiffness and control, reducing unwanted resonances. The coating process further stabilizes the cone and ensures consistent performance across the audible spectrum. Where traditional paper membranes can introduce colorations at higher levels, the Cellulose glass composite maintains neutrality and detail, even under demanding dynamics. Supporting this, a Balanced Drive motor structure minimizes distortion by keeping the voice coil motion symmetrical, ensuring clarity and precision throughout the range. This careful balance allows the woofer to deliver a smooth, natural midrange together with an articulate and well-controlled bass. The result is a driver that is both musical and precise—an ideal foundation for the Reference Three, offering an engaging, open sound with a remarkable sense of ease.
